Post Operative Care
After Surgery
For the initial 4-6 hours post-operatively, rest is recommended. Some patients do experience mild burning, an itching sensation, or a feeling of something in the eye. Pain medication will be provided in the Care Kit on your day of surgery.
Your vision may fluctuate and be blurry on the day of surgery. Most patients will have improved vision by their 1day post-operative visit with their surgeon. The following side effects are possible, however usually dissipate over time. Your vision may initially differ between eyes after having both eyes done at the same time.
- Minimal discomfort or pain
- Hazy or blurry vision
- Scratchiness
- Dryness
- Glare
- Halos or starbursts around lights
- Light sensitivity
After surgery, you must avoid water activity such as pools, spas, and hot tubs for one month. Avoid anything that can get in direct contact with your eyes such as dust, smoke, shampoo, soap, and water. After your 1 week visit you may resume exercise, sports (please use common sense with contact sports), and wearing make-up (2 weeks). Any opened eye make-up should not be worn after eye surgery. Driving is not recommended until your vision has improved enough to enable you to drive safely. There will be a 24-hour emergency phone number that is provided in your Care Kit, should you experience bothersome symptoms or unusual side effects such as pain or extensive redness.
